San Francisco’s oldest hospital, Saint Francis Memorial, has employed RLS since 2004 as Prime Technology Consultant. Initially, RLS was retained to affect
a hospital-wide Technology Infrastructure Upgrade required to support the transition to Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
Our maiden project involved designing a new fiber backbone, new grounding system, new Data Network, and new horizontal cabling at select locations. The project evolved to a comprehensive technology upgrade, including the design of an 802.11a/b/g wireless network, over 600 technology outlets, and the deployment of a biomedical device and patient monitoring system throughout three (3) critical care areas. RLS was also asked to design outside plant connectivity joining two nearby Medical Office Buildings (MOBs) to the main hospital.
The transition to EMR was the catalyst for moving toward a Converged Network at SFMH. In support of this effort, RLS worked closely with SFMH’s IT Vendor, Perot Systems, to specify appropriate network equipment that would be HIPPA compliant and suitable for the high bandwidth demanded by current medical technology applications such as PACS, Biomed, Telemetry, multi-frequency WiFi, and wireless voice applications.
In addition to the main network upgrade, RLS has performed technology design for Saint Francis' Walnut Creek Sports Medicine Clinic, 80-student Training Facility, Interim Emergency Department, new Emergency Department, Operating Suite Renovation, Security Operations Center, and Seismic Retrofit Coordination.
