Established in 1927, the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is now one of the 30 busiest airports in the world. Every decade since its founding has seen extensive improvements and additions to meet the needs of the airlines and passengers. The West Field Cargo Redevelopment Facility project involved the design and construction of a new cargo building to replace the existing outdated structure. As part of a Design/Build Team, RLS provided design, consulting, and construction administration services for the information technology, security, audio visual, and special systems portions of the project. The result of our endeavor is a modern cargo-handling facility that will serve the needs of SFO for many years to come.
The coordinated design/build approach allowed the Airport Commission to develop standards for future projects while minimizing design costs and maximizing the quality of the finished facility.
